Brighton Marathon Weekend 2027

Brighton Marathon 2027 travel guide: runners, spectators and road closures

Brighton Marathon Weekend returns on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April 2027. This guide helps runners, families, residents and airport passengers plan around Preston Park, Hove Lawns, the seafront and city-wide road restrictions without relying on closure times that have not yet been published.

Road-closure status: the official organiser confirms the marathon for Sunday 4 April 2027, but says detailed closure times are confirmed about five weeks before Event Day. Its road-closure page currently keeps 2026 information only as a reference. Do not treat last year’s map or timings as the 2027 plan.

What will change across Brighton and Hove?

The route requires road closures, parking suspensions and some footpath restrictions. Yellow closure and parking-suspension signs will appear on affected streets before the event. The exact roads and times must come from the 2027 plan, but the practical impact extends beyond a line on the course map.

Preston ParkThe marathon start creates early footfall and secure participant areas. A vehicle should not be booked to enter a closure or drop directly at a gate without official access confirmation.
Hove LawnsThe 10K start brings a separate concentration of runners and spectators to the seafront. Nearby roads and bus services may be affected.
Seafront and Madeira DriveMajor event infrastructure, spectators and finish-area activity can make nearby pickup points inaccessible or extremely slow.
Central BrightonDisplaced traffic can congest roads that remain open. A road does not need to be closed to become a poor meeting point.

The best travel plan for marathon runners

Read the participant guide

Use the official guide sent before the event. It will contain the final start time, wave, bag-drop and access information. Do not build the journey from an old blog or a previous year’s race.

Choose public transport or official Park & Ride where suitable

The organiser says Park & Ride will be available for the marathon. Check its final booking and operating details before relying on it.

If using a pre-booked car, agree a reachable drop-off

Plan to walk the final section. The driver must obey closures and steward instructions; a booking cannot create access through the event perimeter.

Separate the start and finish plans

Your morning drop-off point may be unsuitable after the race. Agree a post-finish meeting area away from the densest crowds.

Use a realistic pickup window

Finish time, recovery, baggage collection, walking and phone signal all vary. A minute-perfect collection beside the finish is rarely the strongest plan.

Runner morning checklist

Spectator strategy: see more by moving less

Trying to drive between several points along a marathon route usually produces frustration. Choose one main viewing location and possibly one second point reachable on foot or by an unaffected transport link. The organiser’s spectator guide and tracking app, normally made available close to Event Day, are the best tools for planning.

Agree a family meeting point that is specific but outside the immediate finish flow. “Near the pier” or “at the finish” is not precise enough when thousands of people are moving and mobile networks are busy.

Accessible spectators: the organiser currently lists three accessible spectator areas in its FAQ and invites people needing road-closure access advice for carers or disability support to contact its helpdesk. Recheck the final 2027 participant and spectator guidance.

Brighton Station on marathon weekend

Brighton Station can be extremely busy, and queues may form around exits and onward transport. Sussex Airports Taxis uses the rear station car park on Stroudley Road as the normal pre-agreed collection point:

Brighton Station car parkAPCOA Station Car Park, Stroudley Road, Brighton, BN1 4LF. Confirm the exact meeting instructions with the operator because event restrictions or operational conditions can still affect access.

The front rank and the rear car park are different places. Send the written meeting point to every passenger, especially visitors unfamiliar with Brighton. Allow time to walk through or around the station and keep the passenger’s phone available.

Residents inside or near the route

Check yellow parking-suspension signs even if you normally park with a permit. A valid resident permit does not override a temporary event suspension. If your vehicle must be used on Sunday, move it before the suspension begins and choose a location that will remain reachable.

For care visits, work shifts, airport travel or another fixed commitment, check whether a controlled crossing or alternative access is listed in the official closure plan. Contact the organiser early for disability or carer access advice rather than waiting until stewards are closing the road.

Hotels, checkouts and luggage

Guests staying on the seafront or near the route should ask the hotel which entrance remains accessible to vehicles. A hotel’s main door may face a closed road while a side entrance or loading area remains usable. Do not tell the driver only the hotel name.

For a Sunday checkout, combine the departure time with luggage, walking distance and any hotel holding arrangements. If moving to Gatwick or Heathrow, schedule from the reachable pickup point, not from an entrance inside the closure.

Airport transfers during Brighton Marathon Weekend

A flight does not move because Brighton roads are closed. Build the collection time backwards from the airline’s check-in requirement, then add the realistic diversion, city exit and motorway journey. Friday and Saturday hotel arrivals may also be busier because of participant travel.

How to book a pre-arranged journey for the weekend

Sussex Airports Taxis is a pre-booked service operating 24/7, subject to availability. For marathon weekend, provide the exact address, a reachable meeting point outside the restrictions, date, time, passengers, luggage and any airport flight details.

Payment can be made by cash or card to the driver, and a payment link can be requested. Sussex Airports Taxis cannot currently provide child seats, so families should bring their own suitable seat if required and include it in the luggage-space plan.

No access guarantee: a confirmed taxi booking confirms the agreed transport service, not permission to cross a police or event road closure. Meeting points may need to change if the official 2027 plan or steward instructions make the original location unreachable.

When should this page be checked again?

The key update window begins around five weeks before Sunday 4 April 2027, when the organiser says closures and the marathon start time will be confirmed. Check again during race week for the participant guide, weather, rail engineering work, bus diversions, local council notices and any late security or access change.

Need a planned airport or event transfer?

Send the exact route, date, required arrival time, passengers, luggage and flight details. On race day, the final pickup must remain outside live restrictions.

Frequently asked questions

When is Brighton Marathon 2027?

The Brighton Marathon takes place on Sunday 4 April 2027, within a weekend programme running on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April.

Where does the marathon start?

The official start is Preston Park. The 2027 start time will be confirmed about five weeks before Event Day.

Are the 2027 road closures published?

The organiser confirms that closures, parking suspensions and footpath restrictions will operate, but the detailed 2027 timings are confirmed around five weeks before Event Day. Earlier maps are reference material only.

Can a taxi drop me directly at the start?

Only where live restrictions permit. A better plan is a reachable point outside the closure followed by a walk. Drivers must follow police, steward and road-closure instructions.

Where is the Brighton Station taxi meeting point?

The normal pre-agreed point is the APCOA station car park on Stroudley Road, BN1 4LF. Confirm it before travel because event conditions can affect access.

How should I plan an airport transfer on marathon day?

Work backwards from the airline deadline, use a pickup outside the closure, and add time for diverted Brighton traffic before the normal Gatwick or Heathrow road journey.

Information checked 1 September 2026. The official organiser’s 2027 participant guide, road-closure map, council notices and steward instructions take priority.
