No Journey Should End on the Street.
Sussex Taxis welcomes the Government campaign Get Everyone In for Christmas, a national drive to offer people sleeping rough a route off the streets this winter. We are a small Sussex business, but we believe small businesses can still play a meaningful part.
What is Get Everyone In for Christmas?
It is a Government drive announced on 19 August 2026 to offer people who need it a route off the streets this winter, backed by a £442 million package for accommodation, housing, health and practical support across England.
Get Everyone In for Christmas
On 19 August 2026, the Government announced the next stage of a national drive aimed at giving people sleeping rough a route away from the streets by Christmas.
The announcement is backed by a £442 million package and includes new accommodation alongside longer-term support with housing, health and other needs.
It also contains something that matters enormously to us as a local business. Government has called on businesses, charities, health services, faith communities and local leaders to consider what part they can play.
That invitation made us stop and think.
More Than a Bed for One Night
Accommodation + Support
The Government says new accommodation and support will be rolled out across England this winter as part of the national rough sleeping response.
The National Drive
The plan combines national Government funding with local delivery and participation from councils, charities, health services, communities and businesses.
We See People Sleeping on Our Streets Too.
We are not publishing this because homelessness is a trending subject, and we are not doing it because we want applause.
We are a taxi company. Every day our drivers travel through Brighton, Hove, Lewes and towns across Sussex.
We see the person sleeping in a doorway. We see someone outside a railway station late at night. We see the blanket, the bags and the cardboard.
Like many people, sometimes we look and genuinely do not know what we can do that will actually help.
And that hurts.
This Government announcement genuinely touched us because it speaks about people sleeping outside as people who deserve a route back inside, rather than as something society simply learns to walk past.
Whatever anyones politics, we believe that principle is worth supporting.
Nobody should become so familiar with seeing another human being sleeping in a doorway that we stop feeling something.
£1 From Every Completed Sussex Taxis Booking
Sussex Taxis is a small independent business. We cannot solve homelessness and we do not want to pretend that we can.
But from the publication of this commitment through Christmas 2026, we will set aside £1 from every completed Sussex Taxis booking towards supporting the effort to help people away from rough sleeping.
Transparency matters: we are not claiming that this money is currently being paid directly into a Government fund. We will set the contribution aside while we contact relevant Sussex councils and official partners for guidance on the most effective and accountable way to direct it. We will update this page when that route is confirmed.
Street → Support → Stability → Home
The £1 itself is small. The idea behind it is bigger: thousands of small actions from local people and local businesses can become part of a much larger response.
To Every Sussex Business: Could You Do One Small Thing Too?
Brighton has thousands of independent businesses. So do Hove, Lewes, Eastbourne, Worthing, Crawley, Horsham, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Hassocks, Hurstpierpoint, Seaford, Hastings, Bexhill, Chichester and communities throughout East and West Sussex.
Not every business can make a large donation. Neither can we.
But participation does not need to begin with a huge cheque. It can begin with asking: What can our business realistically do?
Make a Small Commitment
A small amount from sales, bookings or company funds can grow when many businesses participate.
Offer What You Already Do
Transport, food, clothing, professional skills, employment opportunities or practical support can all matter.
Ask Your Council
Contact the council or homelessness partnership in your local area and ask what support is actually needed.
Our invitation is simple: Sussex businesses, please join in if you can.

Tell Us Where Our Contribution Can Help Most.
Sussex Taxis intends to contact councils and relevant homelessness services in the areas we serve to ask a very simple question:
Where can a small local transport business make a useful, accountable contribution to the Get Everyone In for Christmas effort?
We are particularly interested in understanding whether our £1-per-booking commitment could support an existing official local programme, homelessness partnership or another approved route connected with the national drive.
And if transport itself can sometimes be more useful than money, we would also like to understand that.
We are ready to listen.
