Brighton is compact, lively and famous for nightlife stretching from North Laine to the seafront and Kemptown. A good night-home plan is not about fear. It is about agreeing a clear pickup point, keeping your group connected and making sure the vehicle and driver match the booking you actually made.

Choose your Brighton night out area

Seafront and West Street

Large clubs, late venues and the strongest closing-time crowds. Road restrictions and heavy footfall mean the venue door is not always the easiest pickup.

Plan the exact side of the road

The Lanes

Historic narrow streets filled with restaurants, pubs and bars. Walk to an agreed accessible main road instead of asking a driver to enter a pedestrian or restricted lane.

Use a named landmark

North Laine

Independent bars, live music and venues around Komedia and the station side of the centre. Check that your pickup point is not confused with The Lanes.

North Laine is not The Lanes

Kemptown

A welcoming LGBTQIA+ nightlife district extending east from the city centre. St James's Street can be busy, so share the precise venue or street number.

Confirm the venue name

Brighton Centre and Churchill Square

Concert and event audiences can leave together, producing a short but intense demand peak. A pickup a few minutes after the finish can be more practical.

Allow for event dispersal

Hove and The Old Market

Bars, restaurants and live events west of central Brighton. State whether you mean central Hove, Western Road or The Old Market area.

The safest pickup is the clearest pickup

Book before the evening starts. Friday, Saturday, Pride, university events and major concerts can fill availability early.
Use one exact location. Send the venue name, street and postcode. Avoid “near the pier” or “outside The Lanes”.
Check the booking message. Confirm the operator, vehicle details and contact instructions before entering any car.
Stay together in a well-lit place. Do not split from a vulnerable friend simply because different vehicles arrive.
Keep your phone available. Reduce music volume, check messages and tell the operator if the police or venue staff move the pickup point.
Licensed vehicle check: never enter a vehicle simply because someone calls your name or says “taxi”. Match it to the details supplied for your pre-booked journey. If anything does not match, remain in a safe place and contact the operator using the number in your confirmation.

Pickup planning by location

LocationCommon problemBetter plan
West StreetLarge crowds, traffic controls and several nearby junctions.Agree a specific accessible road and wait together there.
Beachfront clubsPeople use “seafront” for a long stretch of road.Provide the venue and street number, then confirm the side of Kings Road.
The LanesNarrow or pedestrianised streets can delay vehicles.Walk to the agreed main-road point only when your vehicle is close.
Brighton StationFront and rear station exits are easily confused. For our planned station collections, use the rear car park on Stroudley Road, BN1 4LF, when stated in the booking.
Concert or football eventRoad controls and simultaneous departures.Book ahead and follow live instructions because the practical point may change.

If you or a friend needs help

Brighton & Hove's current licensing policy states that the city-centre Safe Space operates from St Paul's Church on West Street on Friday and Saturday nights, currently listed as 11:30pm to 4am. It supports people who are vulnerable through alcohol, drugs, injury or emotional distress. Operating details can change, so use the council link below for the latest information.

Never leave a vulnerable person alone to “sleep it off”. If they are difficult to wake, breathing abnormally, having a seizure or repeatedly vomiting, call 999 and follow the call handler's instructions.

Brighton nightlife taxi FAQs

Can I book a taxi home from Brighton after midnight?

Yes, subject to availability. We operate 24/7 for pre-booked journeys, so arrange the pickup before the night begins, particularly on Fridays, Saturdays and major event dates.

Do you cover Hove and towns outside Brighton?

Yes. Pre-booked journeys can cover Hove and many Sussex towns and villages, including Lewes, Hassocks, Hurstpierpoint, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath.

Can I change the pickup point during the night?

Contact the operator as early as possible. A change is not confirmed until it has been acknowledged, because access, timing and the assigned driver may be affected.

How do I know I am entering the correct car?

Match the car and driver to your booking details and contact the operator if anything is different. Do not accept an unsolicited ride from someone claiming to be your driver.

Can a large group travel together?

Tell us the exact passenger number before booking. The vehicle must have enough licensed seats, and larger vehicles have more limited late-night availability.

Can we pay the driver?

Yes. You can pay cash or card to the driver. A payment link can also be requested.

Where is Brighton's Safe Space?

The council's 2026 policy lists it at St Paul's Church, West Street, operating Friday and Saturday nights from 11:30pm to 4am. Check the official council page because service details can change.
